news chevron unites forces in 'we volunteer' activity
Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd., led by Brad Middleton, managing director of Chevron Asia South Ltd., and Pairoj Kaweeyanun, president, Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd., led more than 200 Chevron employees and family members in the ‘We Volunteer’ activity to plant trees and return aquatic animals to the ocean. Under the ‘Restoring Nature and the Environment’ to rehabilitate the ecosystem and increase green areas through beach forest in accordance with Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park, Cha-am district, Phetchaburi province.
Pairoj, president of Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd., said “The volunteer spirit program is a part of the ‘One GOT-We Volunteer’ project which Chevron has held for four years now. “Which is designed to give staff the opportunity to do good and create social change via programs that are beneficial to the public based on their own willingness and personal power. This falls under the ‘One Goal One Team’ concept, which is a core value of Chevron in promoting teamwork, including supporting staff as important ‘human energy’ to participate in environmental protection and benefitting the community, all to drive the sustainable development of the Thai economy and society, something Chevron has consistently prioritized for the 55 years we have been exploring and producing petroleum to support national energy security.”
Brad, managing director of Chevron Asia South, Ltd., said “Chevron has been sponsoring the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park in the ‘Restoring Nature and the Environment in Celebration of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’ initiative since 2014 with a budget of more than ten million baht to restore mangrove forests and thriving ecosystems by setting targets to improve soil conditions, plant and nurture 18,000 seedlings on 60 rai of national park land within six years help the forests thrive once more and sustainably increase ecological diversity in the area.”
Chaiwit Amatamathuchat, director of the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park said “Sirindhorn International Environmental Park was established based on the concept of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, under the oversight of the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park Foundation, to be a model area for the rehabilitation of mangrove forests and conservation of natural resources and the environment,” “Including energy conservation and the application of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy to develop communities sustainably. This program involving Chevron volunteers is a major step in progressing Park’s mission, based on that concept, to build awareness and consciousness of forest conservation, restore greenery and fertility, and create ecosystems that support the development of diverse aquatic life in the community.
This program has received support from more than 200 Chevron employees and family members to plant a wide variety of seedlings, including 2,000 portia, sea almond, copperpod, narra, makha, Siamese cassia, giant crepe-myrtle, and lebbek trees, and have released more than 2,500 barramundi and blue crabs to rehabilitate mangrove forests, to increase the fertility of the ecosystem with diverse aquatic life, and to be a learning resource for forest rehabilitation and community beach forest and mangrove forest ecosystem science.
Natthawut Charoenthanwa, head of the Geology at Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd., said he was impressed with the day’s activity. “I’m very happy to have had the chance to do something good for society,” said Charoenthanwa. “Every time Chevron holds a volunteer activity, I participate because as well as feeling good from helping society, I also meet new friends from other departments and form tighter relationships with the work team. Even more, by giving families of staff the chance to participate Chevron is letting them see how it values its employees and nature conservation. It gives them a greater understanding of our love and dedication towards Chevron, and results in them loving Chevron as we do.”
